The plug-in technology used in vacuum-pipe sun collector installations employs a natural heat-transfer process between streams of hot and cold water, whereby the working fluid (water) enters directly into the vacuum pipes. The plug-in system is composed of two glass tubes enclosed within each other in a vacuum medium. Through the transparent external tube, solar radiance is absorbed by the enclosed tube thanks to its special selective surface. The strong borosilicate surface absorbs solar radiance with minimum refraction and reduces the conductive and convective heat losses. Water is heated by solar power through a thermodynamic process of natural circulation of water streams with different temperatures.

Mechanism of the Plug-in System

The cold water tank, a major component of the plug-in system, fills up with tap water. Cold water is also introduced in the vacuum pipes. When the water in the vacuum pipes is heated, it expands and moves towards the top of the connective tank. The cold water at the bottom of the tank moves towards the tube, replacing the expanding hot water. Every time the water in the tubes is heated, it expands and is replaced by the cold water from the tank.

The plug-in technology allows for easy mounting, irrespective of the surface positioning (horizontal or vertical).
